The horses at Skogarrond

When moving to New Zealand, we were able to purchase some well bred pedigree Icelandic Horses from the quality breeding Stud frá Wetsinghe in the Northern part of the Netherlands, owned by Anno and Ineke Boersma. In 2003 we imported Biskup frá Wetsinghe, a five year old gelding and Þótti frá Wetsinghe, a one year old colt. In 2007 we imported the 5 year old mare Hugför frá Kopavógi from the Danisch Stud Stutteri Ahl.

The Stallion at Stud: Þótti frá Wetsinghe (NL2002100078)

Thotti fra Wetsinghe     Thotti with Biskup as hand horse    Thotti December 2009

Þótti (pronounce as Thotti) is a five gaited, totally black stallion with an good four-beat tölt and very nice leg action. He carries the genes from the high ranked and famous Icelandic stallions Hrafn frá Holtsmúla and Sörli frá Sauðarkróki.

Þótti  is out of Hrefna von Wiesenhof and Pruður frá Wetsinghe. His mother Hrefna proved to be producing various well assesed stallions like his half-brother Trúr frá Wetsinghe. Trúr is one of the highest judged four-gaited stallions in the world.

Several offspring of his father, the friendly and very nice moving Dutch five gaited stallion Pruður frá Wetsinghe did very well at recent assesments and received high marks. Pruður's offspring are in general horses with a nice leg action, friendly character and an enormous will to go.
Þótti is not related to any of the breeding horses Down Under.  Like his father, Þótti seems to pass on his ability for an easy tölt and friendly character. Þótti is DNA tested, chipped and fully registered with the FEIF and on World Fengur. He is tested on spavin through 4 X-rays on each hind leg.
Þótti is available for service in herd and also for AI through EquibreedNZ Ltd in Cambridge. Contact us for more information.

The serving conditions can be found here.

The Mare: Hugför frá Kopavógi (IS2002225350)

Hugfor fra Kopavogi        Hugfor fra Kopavogi and Aki fra Skogarrond            Hugfor and Aki

Hugför is born in Iceland in 2002 to Herför frá Kopavógi  and Logi frá Skarði. Logi is a high judged 4-gaited son of the famous Hrafn frá Holtsmúla who has first served in Iceland and now stands at stud in the USA. Several of his offspring are very good competition horses as well as breeding horses. Hugför is a four-gaited brown-black mare with a white star. She naturally carries her head high in tölt and has nice leg action. She has an enormous will to go.

The Foals: Áki frá Skógarrönd (NZ2008102010) and Brynja frá Skógarrönd

Aki December 2009     Brynja 2 hours old, 4 December 2009

Áki, a colt, was born on 11 October 2008 out of our mare Hugför frá Kopavógi and our stallion Þótti frá Wetsinghe. He shows very nice movements, has an easy tölt and even showed a clear pace. He is brown black, like his mother. He has grown into a real nice teenager with lots of manes.

Brynja was born on 4 December 2009 out of the same combination. Again this combination proves to be very successful! Brynja is an elegant and tall filly with nice high movements. Brynja seems to be really black and has a tiny little star, a bit like her mother Hugför.

The Gelding: Biskup frá Wetsinghe (NL1998100074)

Biskup is out of Kongur frá Wetsinghe and Drottning frá Wetsinghe. Kongur is owned by the German top rider Nicole Kempf and has succesfully competed with her on several World Championships for Icelandic Horses as a member of the German equipe.  Biskup is diluted black with dorsal stripe and salt-and-pepper manes. He is five-gaited.
